EP1 | Extract Infused Beverage
The Aztecs were the first known peoples to unlock the secrets of cocao beans. So sublime were the secrets of the cocao, that the Aztecs said cocoa must come from the divine. The Greeks agreed with this paradigm and gave the cocoa tree its botanical name Theobroma cocao, meaning ‘food of the Gods’. In Ancient Greek mythology the demigod Hercules stole the golden apple of Hesperides from the Theobroma cocao tree. Cocao beans are high in a compound called l-epicatechin. Was this compound what Hercules was seeking? Most dark chocolate contains around 0.7% l-epicatechin. It’s challenging to obtain the studied levels of l-epicatechin by consuming dark chocolate or even pure cocoa powder. Supplementation is the surest bet to get an effective amount. One would be required to eat four blocks of dark chocolate everyday to obtain APOC’s herculean daily dose of 1.9g of complexed l-epicatechin.
